My system size is growing almost every time I boot! It is now over 12GB.
What is the c:\windows\winsxs folder for? That holds about half of this amount.
Boot time has also increased from around 110 seconds to over 130 seconds now!
Otherwise Vista is working just dandy.
Regards and thanks.

Why is my system size growing?
It is a Windows side by side (SxS) folder. I found some refernces to it by searching microsoft.com on "winsxs." For example (but see others also), this article: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms235624.aspx

Thanks for the link. I learnt something new today.
Fascinating - this side-by-side concept. I can see the logic about it and checked out my WinXP machine where the WinSxS folder is about 13.4 MB.
I'm still trying to find out why this folder is so big on my Vista install and why it is growing bigger!
Regards and thanks again.

One reason for it being so big is the debug-code in the files, many of them will become smaller with the final version. As to why it's growing I can not say.

Caches grow with usage.
